Apple is lowering prices of post warranty battery replacements as apology token for slowing iPhones

End of the year does not went well for Apple as it faces back to back lawsuits for intentionally slowing down performance of iPhones with old batteries. Apple took it to finally broke down the silence on the filing of lawsuits and apologies for not handling the battery issue well. Company announced to offer slashed prices on post-warranty battery replacements and to issue software updates regarding battery health.

Apple apologises for mis-handling battery issue

After the research done by GeekBench team, it was clear that Apple is deliberately doing something with aged iPhones and it became clear after Apple itself admits that, they are slowing down performance of iPhones with aged batteries and such an feature is rolled through software updates. Apple also clarified that to prevent unexpected shutdown and damage to iPhone, they took such a step. However, this acknowledgement does not received well by the customers. Some users even take it to court and sued Apple for purposefully cheating the customers to increase sales of newer models. Atleast eight lawsuits are filed in California, New York and at other places.

Apple finally took the criticism gracefully and apologized through their official website, citing that step was taken to prevent unexpected shutdown and improvise user experience as well. It says

“We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making.

First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.”

To recognize customer loyalty and to regain the trust of any user who may have doubted Apple’s intentions, the company announced that post-warranty battery replacement are going to be cheaper as an apology token. It reduces price from $79 to $29 (total $50 discount) for anyone from iPhone 6 to latest model. Apart from this, Apple promised to issue an iOS software update in early 2018 with certain new features that notifies about battery health on your iPhone.
