I am adding the summary at the beginning so that you can decide whether to buy this laptop or not.
One liner: for a 17-18k machine, this is OK as long as you upgrade it to 4gb ram or higher.

BUY this laptop if you intend to watch movies and use it for word/excel/basic powerpoint slides and are OK with the laptop taking its own sweet time to process stuff. Movies work absolutely fine. photos take a little time to load and it becomes slow with chrome. Chrome uses a LOT of ram, which causes the slowness. IE was better, so was mozilla. The screen is awesome, so is the quality of the keypad and the overall display. i use an external mouse so i didnt care about the touchpad.

DO NOT buy this laptop if you want a powerhorse that will have enough grunt to run multiple apps and let you do your work while a movie plays in a small window on the side and lots of stuff is being downloaded too. this one is NOT for ultramultitasking. I have used it while a movie was being downloaded, itunes was running and syncing with my ipod and i was looking at photos on an external HDD. it was too much for 2gb RAM(ofcourse) and the whole thing just hung for a bit until I stopped itunes. With more ram it will work FINE, dont worry.

    The details:

So I bought this laptop as a gift, please consider this as a third party view of the laptop. All this was done with the STOCK machine, post which I decided to upgrade it with a SSD and 4gb extra RAM. The review is of the stock machine, not the upgraded one.

The things that i did NOT like:

    1. The mousepad is slightly towards the left corner. Nothing i could not get used to, but it is just not “normal”.
    2. 2gb RAM does not cut it. it needs minimum 4gb. get ready for that upgrade to 4/6/8gb.
    3. the machine is overall a bit slow, kinda slower than pentium quad core.

    Slowness explained in detail:
    1. it is REALLY difficult to use chrome with multiple tabs open(read facebook will have problems scrolling). IE was a BIT better, but still unacceptably slow
    2. photos take time loading etc.(I have 8-10mb photos and the default app hardly manages to open them) More ram will fix this.
    3. This laptop is inherently a bit slow as the processor is really slow(1.3ghz) and the ram is really barebone.

to fix(to a particular level) the slowness, do the following:
    1. install minimum 2gb more ram(the more, the better, try swapping this with 2 sticks of 4gb each, making it 8gb. I had an extra 4 gig stick so i made mine 6gb)
    2. Install a SSD instead of the HDD and get an external HDD. it DOES make a SUBSTANTIAL difference.
    3. Go to windows settings and optimize for performance.

    The GOOD:
    1. screen, its excellent for the price
    2. the overall specs for a budget laptop: for 18k, you really cannot go wrong but do not expect this to do everything. it is not an ALL IN ONE laptop. you’re on a budget, remember? this can be the first laptop you get, not a gaming machine.
    3. Windows 8.1 is preloaded, which is awesome
    4. watching movies is OK from an external HDD. just make sure it is usb3 and you connect it to the USB3 port.
    5. watching photos in a slideshow in the included app is kinda difficult for this machine, i dont know why.

overall, i would recommend it as a secondary machine or a primary windows machine for someone like me who uses the iPad for 80% of the tasks and the laptop just for watching movies in bed(if i feel like it) and the occasional email and sending out stuff written in word. I already have a licensed version of MS word 2010 so i did not want to spend money on getting word for the iPad.

been using this laptop for a month. Heres a brief review

    +ve points

Good battery backup (got about 3.5 hrs)

    No heating issue

Screen is good (good contrast and brightness)

    overall build quality looks fine

    Touch pad is good

Keyboard is fine for typing but difficult for gamming

Easy access panel (dont have to open the full laptop to change RAM and HDD)

    -ve points

Only 45W charging adapter is supplied which means laptop performance drops while charging but once charged its fine.

Audio quality is fine but not good even with earphones (used windows media player)

has only 3 USB ports out of which only 1 is USB 3..

    clock speed is only 1.4GHz

RAM is 2GB DDR3L (its fine but need 4GB if you are running a few background applications)

Camera is bad (image is very noisy)

    Bottom line(s)

This laptop is excellent if you are tight on budget and still require a operating system.

No heating problem (mild temprature) even if ur using heavey application or games.
(Played on a table 6hrs straight without cooling pad).

This laptop can play games like crysis2 with all in lowest and in window mode.(I used 4GB RAM…..jerks at some points)

Most other casual games like CS, NFSMW runs fine at 2GB.

CPU dependent applications like browsing is not very smooth but usable

windows 8.1 with uefi support works really smooth but ram is only 2 gb…… not multi tasking ..browsing and gaming experience is good due to AMD radeon integrated graphics

you need to have a full day spare to open check your mail. Because whatever be the price the laptop is slow that you will scratch your head. so dont waste your money for saving few bucks. The moment I started this laptop. Just used it for 2 days. Till today it is kept aside.
