No Doubt the laptop is a beast.
These specifications you can guarantee that it will be lasting for alteast for 3-4 years if you are a gamer.

This laptop you can get into the lenovo showroom for Rs. 76,990 with following things included

    1. laptop bag
    2. Cooling pad
    3. Mouse
    4. cleaning kit
    5. 3 years of warranty ( yeah you read it right 3 YEARS)

I have confirmed the same here in the showroom at chennai.

I would strongly recommend if you are planning to buy this beast dont get it from FLIPKART, go to the showroom and get it 🙂
hope it helps many of them

This is a mind-BLASTING piece of tech!

On today’s date, show me a laptop wit same performance (or better) within a price range of INR 74k (thts the price I bought the 4gb graphics version with from E-Mall, Chandni Chowk, Kolkata), I will ‘buy u’ any laptop of your choice!

Tried NFS Rivals and Watchdogs in ultra graphics at 1080p resolution, the output was ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!’ (Yes, its a term)

    1. GTX 860 4GB (its the new ‘Maxwell’ architecture graphics processor, I have checked it myself)
    2. Red backlit keypad with 2 dim levels
    3. No inbuilt optical drive (it saves a lot of space and makes the laptop slimmer than y510. Dont worry, a USB optical drive is included in the package)
    4. JBL speaker does make a difference. U can feel the mild thump of the small sub-woofer present below
    5. The level of brightness of the screen backlight is remarkable. At level 0, u can look at the screen very comfortably even in a pitch dark room. And at level 100, u can easily use it in open sunlight
    6. The laptop comes with a 8GB RAM, which is installed in one single slot (generally, in other laptops its 2 x 4GB). Thus, you get the other slot empty by default in case you want to expand your RAM.
    7. The laptop has got a S/PDIF sound jack. It is a digital format sound output (unlike HDMI, which carries both sound and video). Hook it up with your Audio/Video system and you can bypass your laptops cheap sound-card and use the A/V system’s heavy-duty decoder to convert the raw digital output to a much better analogue output. Google.

    1. Display
    2. Display
    3. Display

Being a designer, I hate the display of this laptop. All digital stuff including 2D/3D renders reflect weird tint. The white balance is not at all calibrated. In short, the whites aren’t actually white. Even in comparison with my 6 year old Sony Vaio, this laptops display failed like big time. Firstly, the screen is highly desaturated. Even if you increase the saturation with the inbuilt Nvidia software, the colour reproduction is so poor, that even ur android phone will beat it. No software can make the display better because the hardware of the monitor is not made to perform better. Its a poor quality TN display. For starters, TN is the cheapest quality of LCD available in the market. Again… just Google it. Some casual users (especially people who find the pre-installed bloat-ware interesting) might not find the display problematic, because this is more of a ‘trophy laptop’ to them.

The last star of my rating is eaten up by the poor display of the laptop. I just wish, one morning I wake up and find my laptop screen transformed to a UHD screen. *sigh…*

Even the 4GB Graphics version comes in full HD (1920×1080)

I came to know about this laptop through a friend when i was looking to buy a gaming laptop.I had know idea a laptop at this price can deliver so much.
1)The looks:The first thing u will notice is d looks.looks elegant and beautiful hiding all that ridiculously awesome hardware. It’s sleek, the bright red backlit keyboard is fantastic.the feel is very good as well.
2)The specs: At this price, the specs are mind blowing.A 4th gen i7 processor equipped along side a 4gb nvidia gtx 860m based on the maxwell architecture, its a bargain to say the least.I played watch dogs on ultra settings without any lag.i repeat NO lag whatsoever.
3)The keyboard:The best i have used in my life. The keys are soft ,have a very good response and the touchpad doesn’t get in the way.the back light helps in typing in d dark.
4)Cooling:For a gaming laptop , this thing handles heat very well. The heat vents are are on the backside like many ASUS laptops and hence u have very cool sides.
5)The Speakers:I saved the best for last. This laptop is equipped with JBL speakers.and they are the best speakers I have ever heard. I happily removed the external speakers I was using before. The dolby software is fantastic with pre sets available for music, movies ,games and VOIP such as skype. You will not need any external speakers whatsoever.Your friends and family will be bowled over by these monsters.
As good as this laptop is,it has few shortcomings. It was expected.
1)The top and bottom surface are fingerprint magnets.Trust me when i say magnets.THEY ARE SUPER MAGNETS!!!!
u will need to keep wiping the surface or u will end up with a day old laptop looking 10 years old.
2)The performance of the graphics card dips after long hours of use…usually after 5-6 hours(If u play that long).
3)The display:It’s not a very big problem. But the initial settings are very bad. Calibrate and u will have a very good display. So don’t feel bad when u turn it on for the first time.
The monitor has refresh rate of 60 Hz so don’t fret.

In short, this laptop is d best thing u can buy if ur a regular and above regular gamer. Its cool, does whatever it’s supposed to and will not disappoint.Have been using it for over a month and it’s as smooth as butter. The pre installed software lenovo provides are OK..but not very useful.Keep it,don’t keep it…upto u! Yes,der are better laptops than this in d market but at this price…NO!
This will b the best buy u ever make! 😀

This laptop is a beast. i7HQ, 8GB RAM and best of all a GeForce Gtx 860M with 4GB GDDR5 RAM! The build quality is very good and even comes with an external optical drive. The backlit keyboard is also very striking in red.

I have played Watchdogs, AC, FarCry4 etc at Ultra and FPS is above 45 consistently. Hands down the best config you can buy at 75K!!

Screen is not great, but okay with calibration (google will help)
The 8GB SSD is used only as cache so boot time is not blazing (~45 sec – 1 min). Disappointing as would have gladly paid for a dedicated boot SSD.

Overall – Dont think too much, if you have the budget just buy it and you are future proof for most upcoming games next year.

Also Lenovo is giving 3 years warranty absolutely FREE with this model. Need to register on brand site.

I got this laptop yesterday from local market. Every thing is super awesome. Throw any game it will run smoothly on mid/high/ultra settings (depending on game) at 1080p with more than 60 fps. Only disappointment is display. I have used a 2010 model of dell inspiron previously, and compared to old dell this y50 have terrible screen (colour reproduction). I can adjust with the narrow viewing angles of TN Panel but colours on this screen disappoint me and its very sad to see this below average quality on a high end laptop. I’m not into professional photo editing and other things, but even if you are editing photos for facebook upload, then also its impossible to do that on this laptop. You just can not use this screen even for viewing photos, it will show terrible results. I’m trying to get used of it (that’s my only option).
PS: I had written this review after calibrating the screen according to some guides on internet, so don’t think that I’ve not tried that.

Got this laptop from Croma ..I have been using it for 10 days..
I WILL TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT THIS LAPTOP maybe it will help you select this laptop or go for another 😀
I bought it for 76K and i got 3 years warranty + Lenovo Bag + A Laptop cleaning kit.

If you want a laptop with a EXCELLENT SCREEN “DON’T BUY THIS” !!!

->The Screen is OK !! But you can always replace your screen.
    ->viewing angles are poor!!
->Track Pads are fine but not that great..
    ->Vents are weirdly located..

->4GB GTX 860 NVIDIA will take down any game !!
->8GB RAM.. you can always increase it later..
->JBL Speakers do the job nicely..
->Keyboard is nice … RED COLOR if EPIC..

Top part is finger print magnet :/

    ->FIFA 14 ,COD Advanced Warfare,Farcry 4 on full config… amazing performance!!

As i told you about the screen earlier its not good but for gaming purpose and watching a movie alone or max with a person …. it will do good job ..

I am very happy with this laptop and would suggest dont think much about the screen its OK not that bad as many complaint ….

    5 stars -1 star for screen = 4 Stars

My review would limit itself on my experience with this laptop and not delve into the most debated issue regarding this model, i.e. the sub par TN panel (which is easily replaceable with an IPS panel if so desired).
Most reviews and comments have already discussed the pros and cons of Y50 extensively and they have indeed been most informative.
I am simply putting forth a thumbs up as one of the proud owners of this machine to any confused soul who is sitting behind a soon-to-be-replaced laptop/desktop, straining his/her eyes day and night in order to find the perfect mid-high end laptop with exceptional performance within a specific budget not exceeding a lac.

Got this Laptop from Flipkart on December 8th, 2014. Delivery within 3 days and Excellent Packaging. Great service from Flipkart as usual.

    Now to the Laptop.

It is a gaming beast using a NVIDIA GTX 860M 4GB Graphics Card with GM107 (M for Maxwell) architecture and trust me, it makes a difference to have 4GB of VRAM. If you check out this card on Notebookcheck.net you will see the benchmarks for the 2 GB version and I have been able to play most of the games specified there on much higher settings than what is shown as playable there.

(AC Black Flag, AC unity, Watch Dogs, Thief, Shadow of Mordor, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Metro Last Light)

Kudos to Lenovo, the only manufacturer to give 4GB VRAM at this price range.

    1) GTX 860M 4GB graphics card. Future proof for the next 2-3 years at least. Also it is a single card, not microstuttering problems you can get with an SLI, like in y510p.
    2) 8 GB DDR3 RAM – It works awesome. Will be sufficient for at least 2-3 years. No problems like in some Ultrabooks.
    3) Red Backlit keyboard – Gives a very sharp look and very convenient
    4) Looks and finish – Lenovo has got oone very good designer. It looks fabulous. The finish looks beautiful but be careful, the surface is a fingerprint magnet.
    5) No inbuilt optical drive – Saves a lot of space and makes the laptop thinner. But you do get a Lenovo external USB DVD optical drive which is good enough for all purposes.
    6) The JBL Speakers – I have stopped using headsets. Much better than all low end headphones. You want an experience better than this, need to get a high quality gaming headphone.
    7) The laptop has a headphone or S/PDIF sound jack. You can plug it into any A/V system and reap the benefits
    8) Battery Backup – 3-4 hours battery back up (70% brightness, Watching HD movies) from a small battery pack is really awesome. Normal Gaming gives you 90 min roughly. So still good. Only problem is Graphic card performance takes a nose dive while working on battery.
    9) 3 years extended warranty from Lenovo.

    1) Display : It is FHD 1920x1080p TN Display. Really bad viewing angles and calibration. But I am getting really good responses while gaming.
    2) HDD : Shitty 5400 RPM 1TB HDD. This thing does not belong on this high end machine. Limits the performance of the 8GB SSD cache memory. I am getting 45 MB/s transfer speed with USB 3.0 External Drives. Wierdly, I got 60MB/s transfer speed while I copied between 2 USB 3.0 External HDDs using this machine. Clear indication that this laptop can perform much better with a 7200 RPM HDD.

If you have the budget, go for it now. If not don’t worry, GTX 970 and GTX 980 laptops are on the way. You can get them easily in India by this year end. Save for that.
