29 reviews for Lava Iris X8
Note : **Some of the reviews are picked from flipkart, Amazon and other e-stores.

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

    Jeetender Kanaya

    Original Review:
Ordered this phone on Flipkart and received it within 3 days. Using the phone for a week now, installed all the required apps and migrated my data and I find that the phone is absolutely value for money.
My reasons for going for a Lava phone and Iris X8 in particular:
My first Android phone was an Indian branded Micromax Canvas 2 A110 – which gave me absolutely trouble-free operation for more than two years, so I wanted to go for Micromax again, but couldn’t purchase the YU Yureka even after 5 attempts in the flash sales, and I decided to ditch it.
The other closest competitors for this phone are the Asus Zenfone 5 (Rs. 9999 on flipkart as of today) Redmi Note 4g (Rs. 9999 as of today on Flipkart) and Lenovo A6000 (Rs. 6999 on Flipkart) – none of them have guaranteed a Lollipop update in the near future.
Redmi Note 4g has capacity of only 1 Sim, 8GB internal memory and larger than required 5.5 inch screen, Chinese Brand – not suitable for my requirements
Lenovo A6000 has only 1 GB RAM (major drawback) & 8GB internal memory, no screen protection glass, battery capacity of 2300 mAh
Asus Zenfone 5 – I’ve used this phone and everything is just perfect about this phone’s performance – except the battery backup which is poor. Plus, I personally find the Zen UI interface very kiddish – however you need to check and see for yourself, you might love it.
Coming to the performance of the phone, the battery back-up is amazing – with one 2G sim for calls and a 3G sim for data and moderate usage, the phone gives atleast 18 hours of backup comfortably. With continuous usage, this figure will be much low ofcourse.
The build quality is very premium. People have complained about the back cover being very thin – how does it matter ? Who opens the back cover everyday ? the battery is non-removable – so insert the sim cards, memory card, fit back the back cover, put a silicon back case on the phone and forget about it.
Touch response is very good, there is no lag even after using three social networking widgets on the home screens.
Camera and audio quality – in my opinion are just ok, however these things are subjective, and people have different opinions. Both main camera and front camera are capable of clicking photos and recording videos in Full HD.
Charger comes with detachable USB cable which can be used as a Data cable, earphones are soft & comfortable in-the-ear type.
Bonus features – the rainbow app which facilitates one hand operation, smart gestures for opening apps directly from lock screen, air shuffle for Camera, music, Gallery & FM
Finally – who should buy this phone:
If you are already using an old model android phone which is slow with poor battery backup and low on memory – this one will give you a refreshing change.
If you have never used a smartphone before (parents, housewives) the large screen, fast performance and simple interface makes it easy to use.
If you are a carefree & careless user and want to enjoy the latest technology in a low budget without caring about the brand of the phone.
Who should not buy this phone:
If you want a slim & light-weight phone, you need to avoid this one – zenfone 5 would definitely be a better option for you
If you are into a client-facing job where the looks of your phone matter, you might want to use a metallic frame phone such as Samsung or Sony which leaves a good impression.
If you are unlucky with phones and need to visit service centers often… I don’t think Lava will provide good support.
Hope that helps, you can message me on facebook if you require more information about the phone.

(PS – about buying an Indian brand product: I am aware, all brands have their hardware manufactured and imported from China and essentially all phones are ultimately Chinese phones, but atleast when we buy an Indian brand, we save country’s foreign currency because it’s an Indian brand earning profit from your money)

I have ordered this phone but found that my local retail shop are selling the same product at lower price along with extra scratch guard screen and flip cover.
Flipkart has not mentioned regarding non-removable battery, SIM slots type (Mini/Regular), data cable.
Waiting for more reviews….. by certified buyers…
I hope the cons mentioned by other buyers are taken into note by Flipkart.
Just cancelled my ordered within 24 hrs.
Never make your decision in hurry as i did.
Check Reviews, Compare price with local vendors, verify the exact specification, have a demo if possible/available, then decide from where to buy it….

    Ratings(Out of 10):

    RAM :10/10

LOOK : 10/10 (It resembles Apple brand, also lava is written in vary small font)

OTG : 10/10 It supports up to 1 TB of external device.

    TOUCH : 9/10

BATTERY : 8/10 (2500 mAh, plus point is that it is made of Li polymer but non-removable)

SOUND : 6/10 (Not much supportive)

    CAMERA : 8/10 (Good results)

So overall it is the best phone for 8999/-
Flipkart delivers it in one day to your destination.
So go for Lava Iris X8 rather than Yureka or Redmi Note.

Ordered on launch hour on 9th Feb and got it on the very next day ! Here goes my review :

Performance — 4/5 No lags or heating noted , 2 GB RAM – flagship feature
    Display — 4/5 Quite impressed
Design – 3/5 Form factor good but phone on bulkier side
Battery – 4/5 Good but 3000 mAh could have been stellar
    Camera – 3.5/5 Satisfactory , It’s 10 mp not 8 as mentioned on fk
Sound – 3/5 Bit low to my liking

Overall I would give it 8.5/10 because of its awesome display and performance given that it costs only 9000 . I was considering YU Yureka also but couldn’t get it due to flash sale system , but now I feel both phones are comparable with yureka offering 4G and Cynogen in addition . So I recommend to go ahead and buy this device .

    UPDATE 2:
The network problem was seems to be sim card related. I replaced the vodafone simcard and its working fine now. Though at some places 3g speed is a tad slower. Also camera problem seems to be software related. You need a super steady hand to capture a good photo. Even with slightest movement camera looses focus. I hope lava will sort out this issue on lollypop update. Else mobile is working strong.

    UPDATE:
Experienced network issue. Network disappears suddenly this issue is happening specially at night only don’t know if this is network problem or handset problem. Last night suddenly phone displayed sim card unplugged error and only after 2-3 times of inserting the card finally it got detected. Other time network works good call clarity is also very good and 3g is fast.
Contacted customer care they advised to reset the phone and if problem persists to show to service center.
Also sometime camera is not focusing properly otherwise working good. I am not sure if both these issues are software related and will get resolved when lava will update the software.
    ————————- Original Review ———————————
I have bought it through a local dealer.
Before beginning review i have to tell i am biased towards lava because i have 3 lava phones at my home iris 501, iris 455 and lava win 1 and every phone is working flawlessly. 501 is more than 2 years old.
    1) Look and Build – Phone looks premium, its iphone copy 🙂 but looks good, build quality is very very good and its good to hold. But its certainly not a lightweight phone a bit heavy but certainly not heavy as old nokia n series. 4/5 for looks.
    2) OS – Bare bone kitkat 4.4.2 with gesture support. There is no customization at all. This is a pro or con, pro is ph is lightening fast con is it dont give you that special feeling to use. Lava should have used its own HIVE UI. 3.5/5 for UI.
    3) Screen – One of the best thing about this phone. Scratch resistant glass with good colors and viewing angles. Dont compare it with AMOLED – 4/5
    4) Connectivity – Not a single problem faced unlike some reviews sim cards got detected 3g, wifi running smoothly. Though i need to cut my sim to microsim. 4/5
    5) Camera – 8MP autofocus camera take decent pictures. Fast autofocus and good color reproduction. don’t expect nokia grade results but its certainly very good for the price. 3MP front cam is OK OK may be some selfie addicted people will be disappointed. 4/5
    6) RAM and ROM – 13 gb internal memory and 1.5 gb of ram free on first boot. excellent. 5/5
    7) Battery – Again no complaints i am not a gamer but from my usage pattern battery will not die for 1 to 2 days. I haven’t experienced any heating in 3 days
    8) Performance – As stated above barebone OS and 1.5 gigs of RAM make this phone really fast. Haven’t tested some games yet. will update about this later.
    What could have been better.
    1) A true 1.7 gigahertz octa core processor instead of 1.4
    2) A flipcover – Common lava no flipcover or backcover with your flagship model? Even lava win1 have it.
    3) HIVE UI – After using lava android phones for a while a good customized UI will be a different experince.
I would have paid a 1000 more for 1.7 ghz processor and flipcover.
But for the budget this phone is a blast and i am IMPRESSED.
Will update with any pros and cons i find.

First of all i read many reviews complaining about camera and battery etc. guys give me a break. You are spending 9000/- for 2GB RAM, 2500mAH Battery, 16GB ROM, 10MP Camera and an octa-core phone. don’t be immature complaining and comparing about this budget phone with high end big branded phones.

sharing with you my experience of using this phone ( 20+ Days )

Build Quality : The build quality of this phone is brilliant. though some might find the phone a bit heavy but it does feel sturdy in your hands. the feel and the looks are premium.
Display: Very good display. it has very good visibility under direct sunlight if you keep the brightness level high. Touch response is very good.
Performance : Excellent… never felt any lag while multitasking or gaming. played high graphic game like Real Race 3 and it played smoothly. The phone does get warm after 20 minutes of gaming but doesn’t heat up high like other budget friendly phones.
Camera: Any one complaining about the camera must be spoiled by high end brands or they are expecting DSLR quality from a phone camera. i mean come on guys…LAVA X8 takes very good pictures under bright light and average pictures under dim light. the rear camera is actually 10MP ( Yes you read it right ) it’s a 10MP camera even though the company has mentioned only 8MP on the back side of the phone. in camera settings you can change the resolution to 10MP. The front 3MP snapper does a decent job as well. and finally a camera is as good as the person holding the camera.
Music : This phone has good music quality and quite a few tweaking to suite your choice. The loud speaker is decent. but the main let down in this department is the earphone provided with the phone. they are of real low quality.

Call Quality : Call quality is very good. The microphone and speaker does a good job. Didn’t experience any call drops and the phone never seem to struggle for network.

Battery : The battery lasts a whole day on high usage (3 hours of Calling, 2 hours gaming, 2 Hours of Music, surfing internet, whatsapp, twitter on 24 hours, wifi on 4/5 hours and data connection enabled 24 hours ). it lasts 24 hours on moderate use. very good indeed.
Overall i must say that this is a very good phone from an indian brand at a very decent price. Go for it.

This phone is a value for price device. As usual one day delivery by flipkart. Kudos!

    Coming to phone features.

I feel its good device for the price you put on. Display is crisp. Smooth UI. Gesture control , i liked it very much which is unique i hope from the other phones.

still in inception stage to comment about the phones performance. so nothing in that area.

Other features as mentioned. Works good for me. Removable battery is something like in Nexus 7 for me , coz i havent seen apple products or any other nexus products. wrapped and glued to the phone.

Bit heavy though but still ok. I am also a victim to Yureka flash sales where you dont get the phone inspite of having best internet connection etc.

Went for this phone. not worried about 4g at this time as in India , 3G itself is going to take time to be reliable mobile network. 4G is long way down considering the price and connectivity aspects.

    Recommendation : Buy
Reason : Latest Features ,2 GB RAM , 8999 price.. Value for money

I would say not to buy this phone due to below reasons

    1. Build quality is worst & backpanel if very thin and it will break while opening
    2. Camera is utter waste, although they say Primary is 8 MP
    3. Its more weight compared to other phones
4.Speaker is worst, very poor quality & couldn’t hear outside
