Sony officially announced three new devices dubbed as Xperia L2, Xperia Xa2 and Xperia Xa2 Ultra at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. Various leaks and rumors already suggested dual front camera and ditching of MediaTEK chipset, now all the detailed specifications are out for all the three handsets. Xperia L2 will start shipping from January end while Xa2 and Xa2 Ultra will hit the stores in February, 2018. These Xperias are redesigned and featuring some major notable changes. Major disappointment that comes is, devices do not feature the latest 18:9 aspect ratio displays. However, some trim off took place on the base of handsets. No official statement is made regarding the prices yet.
Sony Xperia L2 – The Entry-Level Smartphone
The first Sony smartphone to go official today, the Xperia L2, the successor of Sony Xperia L1 packs a 5.5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 pixels screen resolution. Just like the predecessor, it continues to keep the quad-core Mediatek MT6737T chipset clocked at 1.5GHz CPU speed. Japanese company although doubled the storage from 16GB to 32GB and increased the RAM as well to 3GB in comparison to first edition. Dedicated microSD card slot will of additional help for few users who thinks 32GB is not a sufficient option.
The Sony Xperia L2 runs Android Nougat 7.1 and will feature Dual SIM for few countries. Handset also gets a bump in battery capacity, it now packs 3300mAH battery, up from 2620mAH on the L1. For the very first time, entry level phone of Sony is featuring a fingerprint sensor, mounted on the back side of device.
In terms of optics, L2 satisfy itself with a 13 mega-pixel rear camera lens with f/2.0 aperture and supported with features like LED flash, auto-focus, geo-tagging, digital zoom, 1080p recording etc. It is also accompanied by a 8 mega-pixel snapper on the front supported with wide angle view lens.
The Sony Xperia L2 is destined to hit stores in January, 2018. There is no word on worldwide availability and pricing yet.
Second phone to go official at CES 2018, the Xperia Xa2, the successor of previous edition, Sony Xperia Xa1 now sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels screen resolution instead of a 5-inch 720p display on Xa1. Handset successfully went on to ditch the Mediatek chipset and now packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz CPU speed. Snapdragon 630 is coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. Internal storage is expandable up to 256GB, thanks to dedicated slot on the device.
On accounting cameras, Xa2 packs a huge 23 mega-pixel camera lens on the rear panel with f/2.0 aperture and all the necessary features like LED Flash, digital image stabilization, face detection, self timer, HDR, Panorama, PDAF, burst mode etc. Large rear camera lens is accompanied by a ultra wide viewing 8 mega-pixel snapper on the front side of Xa2.
The Sony Xperia Xa2 runs Android 8.0 Oreo and features Dual-SIM option in select countries. Handset gets a bump in battery capacity, packing 3300mAH battery instead of tiny 2300mAH battery on the Xa1. Company has decided to move fingerprint sensor to the back of smartphone below the shutterbugs. In terms of dimensions, it measures 142 x 70 x 9.7 mm and weighs around 171g.
Xperia Xa2 will start shipping from February, 2018. Nothing is known about the worldwide availability and pricing yet.
Third smartphone that got unveiled by Sony at CES 2018 is Xperia Xa2 Ultra (souped-up variant of Xa2), successor of previously launched Xperia Xa1 Ultra. Handset packs similar specifications related to Xa2 with some notable changes. It sports a larger 6-inch Full HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels screen resolution and 367 PPI pixel density same as Xa1 Ultra. Sony has ditched Mediatek chipset and boarded 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Internal storage can be increased up to 256GB, thanks to a dedicated microSD card slot on the device.
Sony Xperia Xa2 Ultra features a large 23 mega-pixel camera sensor to produce excellent photographs, rear camera lens is supported with LED flash, Phase detection auto focus, Digital image stabilization, 4K resolution video recording. The notable difference comes in relation to selfie camera as it packs a dual front camera with lenses of 16 mega-pixel and 8 mega-pixel sensor quality supported with less extreme FOV, 16:9 aspect, autofocus, and OIS.
Smartphone is backed by a bump in battery capacity, sporting 3580mAH battery instead of 2700mAH in Xa1 Ultra. Just like Xa2, fingerprint sensor is moved to the back and bezel trim off took place at the base of the handset. It measures 163 x 80 x 9.5 mm in dimensions and weighs around 221g. Handset runs Android 8.0 Oreo on the top and dual SIM option depends on country variant.
The Sony Xperia Xa2 Ultra will hit the stores in February, 2018. No official statement is made regarding the worldwide reach and price yet.
